Art museum!
It is very hard to find good scans of classical art of the Internet. It is very hard to find classical art in general. The least annoying site to navigate, WikiArt, tends to miss several important pieces of even the most popular classical artists, and will frequently upload faded or low quality scans. Navigating through other sites is nightmarish and usually requires inspecting the page to pull the proper image links for downloading. I have seen social media sites modify classical pieces without saying it, adding filters or colorings that weren't originally there.
To compensate, I have several of my favorite pieces in (usually) the max quality I could find below. Click an image in order to see its full size and download it.
Gustave Doré
I would first like to say that Doré is my favorite artist, so he gets a much bigger section than anyone else. However big this section is, you should still know it is extremely truncated. Throughout his life, he created over 10,000 illustrations. I am only putting my favorites below, and some of these favorites are in such big original quality that I simply do not have the space for it on my server. For max quality scans of his Divine Comedy illustrations, take a peek at this link. For his Bible illustrations, refer to here.
Paintings
Bible Illustrations
These are all taken from the link above. However, I have darkened these scans, as the originals all look washed out.
Paradise Lost Illustrations
There will be more here! I just need to find a good Paradise Lost illustration source first.
Orlando Furioso Illustrations
This is Doré's last major work. There are 618 total of these illustrations, but I only have 208 of these illustrations from my copy of Doré's Illustrations for Ariosto's 'Orlando Furioso'". Unfortunately, these are only bad phone pictures, and I can't even find a year. I promise I will eventually properly scan these! I just am uploading these despite the bad quality because some of these simply don't seem to show up on the Internet at all.
